Lauren, Eva and Marie Have a Conversation Jenny DelFuego Paper, eggshells, mussel shells, encaustic collage on whitewashed canvas, percussion instruments, luggage, lucite chairs, Capiz shell, willow This work is about being a sentient being in a material world. It's fueled by the stories of three brilliant women whose lives were tragically intertwined with the materials they encountered. The artistic approaches of Lauren Ditchley and Eva Hesse resonate deeply with my own practice, while Marie Curie's journey, brought to light by Adrienne Rich's "Power," adds another layer to the conversation. A vibrant underpainting was created with pigments gifted by a friend. They belonged to her artist brother who, like thousands of others in the 80’s, died of medical malpractice due to prescribed drugs. More recently, I lost my art sister, Lauren, whose namesake graces this piece, to a similar fate. Hence, the sense of absurdity which permeates the score. For me, art is a way to live with the relentless questions which course through my mind. Repetition has become a form of meditation, allowing me to delve deeper into these complexities. May this work be playful sanctuary, a space to slow down, unwind and engage in quiet contemplation. Sincere thanks to all who activate this durational piece. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/646d182b35100c0fb0de6eae/1755022757990-EI758PVDQDZEM5LTKLXD/delfuegopoem2eggshellsonpaper.jpg
